Johnathon Bedasse

2020 William A. Dart University Scholarship

Columbia University, USA
Economics

Majoring in Financial Economics at Columbia University, Johnathan’s area of concentration is statistics where he aims to become more proficient in programming using statistical applications. During a summer internship with Dart’s investment analyst team, he discovered how statistics can be applied in real estate and finance. Johnathon enjoys playing classical and jazz music to relax and unwind – and even found a way to squeeze a piano into his dorm room.

A big challenge I face, which I’m sure we all face, is impostor syndrome. I’ve realised the best way to face it is to remember everyone experiences it, and it’s okay to ask questions and you can take the pressure off yourself to know everything all the time.

Johnathon's highlights

  • 4 A*/As at A-level
  • Associate of Trinity College London in Piano, Music Performance Diploma
  • One Young World Manchester delegate
  • Principal’s Award, Cayman Prep & High School
  • Model United Nations outstanding delegate
  • Butterfield Young Musician of the Year

For the past two summers, Johnathan has interned with Dart’s investment analyst group where he was tasked with research, financial modelling and programming. He enjoyed the responsibility he was given to organise his own time, lead meetings and present his work to other teams at Dart, and especially liked visiting building sites where he could see the projects he was involved in coming to fruition.

As a pianist, Johnathan’s proudest achievement was completing his Associates at Trinity College. After hours of practice and years of progressing through the Trinity grades, it was rewarding to make it to the associate performance level.
