Drew Milgate

Dart Scholar Alumnus
Class of 2021

University of Cambridge, UK
Engineering

Knowing he wanted to explore career opportunities outside of engineering, Drew is currently working in the Netherlands at an asset management company, where his experience with research has proven extremely relevant. Drew began studying for the first level of the CFA while still at university. He is passionate about investing and plans to take the final level of the CFA programme in the near future. Drew also considers himself an amateur chef, finding cooking therapeutic after long days in front of a screen.

Study what you love and don’t worry about the career at the end of the road. There will always be a place for smart, motivated people, and companies are willing to hire across disciplines.

Drew's highlights

  • CFA Levels I and II
  • MEng Electrical and Electronics Engineering (Honors Pass with Distinction)
  • Versarien Prize in Electrical Engineering 2021
  • GB2 Electrical Power Project Prize 2020
  • Cambridge University Eco Racing 2017-19

Drew’s first internship with the Dart Labs innovation team made a big impression. He enjoyed the autonomy he was given to conduct research, think critically about how to apply his work and communicate his ideas to the team. Drew has a natural curiosity for why and how things work, whether that’s electric vehicles or companies and investments. He enjoys the mental rewards of discovering something no one else has seen before and likes to understand each link in the chain of causality.

“My motivation is my own hunt to explain each link – finding the next step in the process scratches the itch in my brain that looks for completion.”

Drew Milgate

Drew describes his current position as portfolio manager as his dream job. His plan is to keep turning up to work every day with an open mind, hoping to learn as much as he can from his colleagues, so that one day he too will be a seasoned investor.
