Reproductive Biology

Diandra is currently studying for a Bachelor of Science in Reproductive Biology at the University of Edinburgh and plans to continue in the field for her Master’s. She is passionate about her studies and has a keen interest in genetics. Her internships in the medical profession have guided her choice of degree and future career path in reproductive biology.

My main goal is to come back to Cayman to work. I hope to pursue a career in Clinical Embryology to provide women in Cayman with options within their own country instead of travelling abroad.

Diandra’s interest in science and research began at an early age when she entered the Rotary Central Science Fair. It took many attempts at refining her methodology before her efforts were finally rewarded with first place.

Pursuing her interest in medical research, Diandra completed a summer undergraduate research fellowship with Health City Cayman Islands and has also spent time shadowing a paediatrician at Doctors Hospital through the Mentoring Cayman programme.

I think it’s impossible to be perfect, it’s most important to focus on how you can learn from your mistakes and become better.

Diandra wants to use her degree in reproductive biology to bring awareness to reproductive health, allowing women to regain agency of their bodies and make informed decisions. Either as a clinical embryologist or as a researcher, she’s interested in understanding fertility and why it declines with age.
