Two buildings that were part of the former Hyatt Regency Grand Cayman Resort, which was severely damaged by Hurricane Ivan in 2004, are due to be demolished later this month.
The two buildings slated for demolition are the ones closest to the former golf course.
Pulling down the two structures, which lost their structural integrity as a result of the hurricane damage, will facilitate ongoing works by Dart Real Estate’s property management team to improve the entrance to Britannia Villas.
The demolition will allow the temporary fence line that runs along the left of the entry drive to be moved behind the existing vegetation, improving the appearance and creating a stronger sense of arrival. At the same time, preparations will be made to reopen the footpath along the canal behind the closed hotel, extending the network of walking trails in and around Britannia.
While Dart Real Estate has no plans for [the] former Hyatt hotel site, preliminary research for future options include a survey that shows the five remaining buildings at the former Hyatt hotel site have retained structural integrity.
