Media statement: The next phase of growth at Camana Bay begins

In response to continued demand for Class A office space and for-lease residential offerings, Dart has submitted planning applications for the development of a new commercial office building and residential apartment building in Camana Bay.

Executive Vice President Asset Management & Development Planning Justin Howe says the development of new commercial and residential offerings at Camana Bay represents the next phase of growth for the master planned community.

“The Camana Bay master plan is a living document that guides growth while allowing the flexibility to respond to current market demand and keeping an eye on the future,” Howe says. “The town centre’s Class A office space is almost at capacity and The Terraces have been fully leased since opening a decade ago. Demand for residential and commercial space at Camana Bay remains strong.”

Howe says that, in keeping with the design principles that are hallmarks of Camana Bay, the projects emphasise walkability and sustainable design, and will be future-proofed for potential expansion.

“Over the past 12 years, Camana Bay has grown into a thriving town that attracts international brands to the Cayman Islands, with a strong sense of community and sustainability that enriches lives today and for future generations,” he says.

The planning applications for both the five-storey office building, located to the west of Dart’s headquarters on Nexus Way, and the new residential building at Bismarckia Way were submitted last week. At 10 storeys, the apartment block will feature 89 for-lease residential units.

Howe says this is the first time a 10-storey building will be constructed to the east of the Esterley Tibbets Highway.

“Taller buildings at Camana Bay reduce sprawl, increase energy savings and conserve resources by enabling more residents to live closer to where they work, shop, play and learn,” he says. “Building up instead of out allows Dart to maximise density while keeping development footprints small.”

While the possibility of a tall building with a hotel component is still under consideration at Camana Bay, current plans are focused on the new residential and commercial developments.
