On Thursday, 26 March, Dart celebrated the topping out of 55 Cerasee Way, marking a major milestone in the development of Camana Bay’s future Health and Wellness Centre and a significant step forward for integrated healthcare in the Cayman Islands.

Purpose-built as a modern medical facility, the Health and Wellness Centre is designed to bring together a range of specialty providers within a single, integrated environment, supporting a more connected approach to care – one that is accessible, holistic and focused on prevention.

“From its inception, Camana Bay was envisioned as a community built on wellness,” said Kristy Rivers, vice president of sales and leasing at Dart. “Shaded pathways, walking trails, water features, lush gardens and sustainability have been integral to its design and construction at every phase.

“Over time, we’ve seen growing demand for something more – wellness that is advanced and flexible,” Rivers continued. “Medical professionals are no longer simply looking for spaces that can be adaptable to their needs; they want spaces purpose-built for today, while remaining flexible enough to evolve alongside the healthcare industry and future standards of care.”

The Health and Wellness Centre forms part of a broader vision to establish a dedicated health district within Camana Bay, reflecting a growing recognition of the role that well-designed environments play in supporting healthier communities.

Minister for Health, Environment and Sustainability, Hon. Katherine Ebanks-Wilks, reflected on the cultural roots of wellness in the Cayman Islands, as reflected in the street name Cerasee Way. “Cerasee has long been valued across the Caribbean for its medicinal properties. As a child, I remember my father giving me cerasee tea for just about everything – from rashes to stomach ailments.

“Today, as we look to the future of healthcare, we are reminded that prevention has always been part of our heritage. The Government is committed to building on that foundation by encouraging more preventative care, active lifestyles and a greater focus on holistic wellbeing across our communities,” she said.

Dr. Binoy Chattuparambil, chief cardiac surgeon at Health City Cayman Islands, reinforced the importance of that shift toward prevention. “Too often, we are seeing patients too late; when illnesses have already advanced and become more difficult to treat,” he said. “The Health and Wellness Centre will provide access to integrated healthcare, replacing the fragmented system we have today. It is designed to be accessible, holistic and, most importantly, preventative – supporting better outcomes for the community.”

More than a construction tradition, a topping out ceremony marks the completion of a building’s structural framework. For the Health and Wellness Centre, it also underscores the project’s strong momentum, with construction currently months ahead of schedule.

During the ceremony, attendees signed the final topping beam. “Those signatures now form a permanent part of the structure and are a lasting symbol of the collective effort behind the project,” said Gary Gibbs, executive vice president of development at Dart. Gibbs described the building’s design as “intentional and flexible” and “adaptable to the future needs of specialty medical service providers.”

In keeping with Dart standards, the Health and Wellness Centre is being constructed to LEED® standards, incorporating energy and water efficiency measures, along with thoughtfully selected materials that support sustainability and long-term performance.

Once complete, the Health and Wellness Centre at 55 Cerasee Way will serve as a cornerstone of Camana Bay’s continued evolution, supporting the long-term health and wellbeing of residents through thoughtfully designed, future-ready healthcare infrastructure. Construction is ongoing, with completion anticipated in 2027.
