Following the government's National Solid Waste Management Strategy, these new facilities can divert up to 95% of waste from being landfilled.
Sustainability is at the heart of everything we do. Whether that's leading the way in recycling with our glass pulveriser. Using solar, geothermal, and rainwater to generate power. Or installing turtle-friendly LED lights in all of our developments. We believe that celebrating sustainable growth is the only way to decrease our dependence on fossil fuels, reduce carbon emissions and preserve our islands' natural beauty.
We've begun mapping our activities to the United Nation's 17 Sustainable Development Goals, a universal and visionary framework created to build a better future for all. We've chosen six goals to focus our efforts on: responsible consumption and production, affordable and clean energy, sustainable cities and communities, quality education, decent work and economic growth and industry, innovation and infrastructure.
Responsible Consumption and Production
For the past decade we've been recycling and reusing materials across our projects and transitioning to environmentally practices in all we do. From pulverizing glass used in pavers across the Island, to the decommissioning of lightbulbs and adoption of LED lighting across our properties, we're committed to responsible consumption and encouraging other businesses to do the same.
Affordable and Clean Energy
Year-round sunshine makes it easy for us to lead the way in solar production; we're proud to have installed the largest solar panel set up at the Kimpton Seafire Resort + Spa and Residences and many of our projects incorporate environmentally sound practices such as LED lighting, geothermal energy and rainwater harvesting. Our focus on sustainability means we're constantly exploring emerging technologies to decrease our dependence on fossil fuels and reduce carbon emissions.
Sustainable Cities and Communities
Camana Bay: where connectivity and accessibility are at the heart of design. The first of its kind in the region, the New Urbanist town of Camana Bay exemplifies our approach to creating places that enrich lives now and for future generations. Making the highest and best use of limited land and reducing our environmental impact, we're leading the way in sustainable design. And our focus on infrastructure, innovation and sustainability are guiding the way.
More than $60 million invested in education over ten years. And we're not done there. Access to quality education is fundamental to the sustainable development of our community. Through Minds Inspired we run seven programmes each year: Math Challenge, Work-X, MI Academy, STEM Teacher Award, STEM Graduation Award, FIRST Technical Challenge and Sea Perch. Igniting Cayman's brightest young minds to power the future.
