BUTTERFIELD TO CONSOLIDATE TWO BANKING CENTRES
Butterfield Bank (Cayman) Limited announced last month the consolidation of its Camana Bay and Governors Square operations, with plans to expand the physical footprint of the Camana Bay Banking Centre.
The Governors Square Banking Centre, which has been closed since January, will not reopen.
Mike McWatt, managing director of Butterfield in Cayman, said Camana Bay's continued growth prompted the move. There are currently two 10-storey buildings under construction in Camana Bay — the 60 Nexus Way office building and Kapok, the for-lease apartment building. Both buildings will offer a mixture of retail/restaurant space on the ground floor.
“With growth at Camana Bay, we have made a strategic decision to focus on and expand our presence there to benefit clients, said McWatt. "Staff previously at Governors Square have already been redeployed and we will be increasing our client service team at our Camana Bay Banking Centre.”
Butterfield's location at Camana Bay already offers a full suite of banking services, in addition to designated meeting spaces for appointments with the investment, corporate banking, lending and trust teams.
SCOTIABANK OFFERS NEW PARENTAL LEAVE POLICY
Scotiabank Cayman announced last month that it had adopted a new policy for parental leave for employees.
The enhanced offering will include increased fully paid leave for all parents welcoming a new child, including adoptive parents, legal guardians and parents who have given birth.
Maternity leave will be increased to 16 weeks — up from 13 weeks. Fathers, adoptive parents and appointed legal guardians with a new child will receive four fully paid weeks of parental leave.
Scotiabank Cayman Human Resources Manager Janelle Milburn was very happy to introduce the new parental policy to its staff. “It reinforces our commitment to a culture of diversity and is one that puts the welfare of our people at the heart of our success," she said. "It is also a progressive move to accommodate and respect personal dynamics and the family situation of each of our employees."
The Parental Leave Policy came into effect in March 2022 for Scotiabank employees in the Cayman Islands and other countries in the region where the bank operates.
Anya Schnoor, Scotiabank's executive vice president of the Caribbean, Central America and Uruguay, said the new policy delivers on the bank's core purpose of "for every future" and underpins its approach to making the parental leave policy inclusive of all parents.
“No matter where Scotiabankers are located, they will be able to expect quality coverage and flexibility that affords them the time away from work to support their families,” Schnoor said.
2,500 VOLUNTEERS FOR CHAMBER CLEANUP
Dart staff, many accompanied by family members, joined more than 2,500 volunteers at the Chamber of Commerce 2022 Earth Day Cleanup on 23 April.
The annual event, which the Chamber has organised for more than 20 years, attracts volunteers from its member businesses, organisations and the wider communities across Grand Cayman, Cayman Brac and Little Cayman.
This year's theme for the Earth Day cleanup, which was one of the largest ever held in the Cayman Islands in terms of the number of volunteers that participated, was ”Invest in our Future.”
Chamber President-Elect Nelson Dilbert personally collected five bags of garbage during the cleanup. Several tonnes of garbage were collected in total during the morning and then picked up by Cayman's National Roads Authority and the Department of Environmental Health.
”Cleanups like this are just one way individuals can get involved to combat the littering issue in our communities,” Dilbert said.
This year's cleanup event featured a strategic partnership between the Chamber and Corona beer. Corona organised a weigh station for plastics at the post-cleanup brunch at Coral Beach. Participating volunteers over the age of 18 were encouraged to deliver bags filled with plastics collected during the cleanup. Corona then distributed vouchers for beverages for each bag turned in.
Corona Brand Manager Aaron Burcombe said that more than 77 bags had been counted at the plastic weigh-in station by noon. Corona is the first beverage brand to declare a net-zero plastic footprint globally. Protecting beaches is one of the sustainability projects undertaken by Corona as it aims to clean up 100 beaches and eliminate 1 million pounds of plastic by 2025.
